    Green Professional Training (GRPO),

    Fundamentals of Building

The (3) required sessions are April 7, April 21 and  April 28.

USGBC-LA is bringing “green professionals”, or GPRO classes to LA. The courses target on-the-ground building professionals who seek to integrate green practices into their core knowledge, and expand their skills to fit a wider range of jobs.

The full GPRO program offers a series of (3) classes that lead to a certificate exam. Materials cover the "green gap" between standard trade skills and the new knowledge, awareness, and skills required to successfully implement green building. The “GPRO: Fundamentals of Building Green” class is the prerequisite for all GRPO trade-specific courses.

On an introductory scale, objectives for attendees of the “Fundamentals” class include being able to demonstrate an understanding of green building and why it’s important, work in accordance with new regulations, and have an enhanced ability to compete for and participate in green jobs.

The class will include a student’s role in:

    • Construction Activity Pollution Prevention

    • Construction Waste Management

    • Construction Indoor Air Quality

    • Commissioning

More information about the content, please look at the GPRO website: http://www.gpro.org/courses/fundamentals

Offered in partnership with Metro, USGBC-LA is pleased to present the Fundamentals of Green Building course in three installments. The course fee includes materials, instruction, and certification exam.

Small businesses and non-profit partners of Metro qualify for a discounted registration and should use the code: METROPARTNERS when prompted.

Please provide the appropriate SBE, DBE or NAICS code to verify your small business or non-profit once you have entered your name and email. Small businesses are defined as having an annual budget under $1.3 million.

    Free Workshop

USGBC-LA and LABBC are facilitating a series of workshops to help building owners comply with the city's new Existing Building Energy & Water Efficiency (EBEWE) Ordinance. •  What is the city's policy context for the ordinance
    • When specific properties are required to submit benchmarking information.
    • What building and utility information is required for complying with the energy and water benchmarking and reporting requirements.
    • How to access utility data to benchmark properties with Energy Star Portfolio Manager.
    • When properties must also comply with energy auditing and retro-commission requirements.
    • Information about the Benchmarking Help Center and supporting programs and resources by the LA Better Buildings Challenge.

A special tour at La Kretz Innovation Campus will be offered at 12pm, right after the workshop.

Visitor parking is available throughout the campus ($12). The closest is just to the south in Parking Structure 8 or 9.  Street parking a few blocks away in neighborhood (walkable).

For directions, see section D4 of the Campus Map at http://www.ucla.edu/map/ucla-campus-map.pdf

Please join the USGBC-LA Westside and SFV Branches for a tour of one of UCLA’s newest green buildings, the Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference and Guest Center.

The tour will be guided by Cindy Gagle of the Luskin Center, Emma Sorrell, Sustainability Manager for UCLA Housing and Hospitality Services, and Todd Lynch, Principal Project Planner, UCLA Capital Programs.

Completed in 2016, the Luskin Conference Center is an important new central meeting place at UCLA.  With more than 25,000 square feet of versatile, thoughtfully-executed event space and 254 graciously appointed guest rooms—many of which offer inspiring views of lush, landscaped grounds and historic architecture—the Luskin Center affords many new possibilities for scholars, innovators, leaders, and the diverse campus community to build relationships, exchange ideas, and make breakthroughs possible.

The Center’s central location supports the academic mission while reducing the collective carbon impact of UCLA’s many conferences and hosted events. As a high-capacity, energy-efficient central facility, served by both the nearby campus Cogeneration Plant and UCLA’s Transportation Demand Management program, the Center provides an outstanding meeting venue just a short walk from any campus department. For visitors, it offers a wonderful new base from which to explore many exciting cultural opportunities on campus as well as shopping and dining in nearby Westwood Village.

Beyond its location, the Luskin Conference Center has sought to integrate sustainability into all aspects of its facility and operations, including clean energy, sustainable water systems, recycling and waste management, sustainable food service and more.  The Center is currently in the final stages of LEED Certification, seeking a Platinum ranking.  For more details, see the recent feature in UCLA Magazine; for more information about UCLA’s sustainability and green building programs, please visit: http://sustain.ucla.edu.

Enhancing the gracious Luskin Conference Center guest experience is Plateia, a full-service Mediterranean-inspired, California-fresh restaurant and lounge. This will be the starting and end point of our tour, with happy hour and refreshments hosted by Morley Builders.

Come learn about the many sustainable features and programs at this new campus landmark and meet your Westside and SFV Branch colleagues in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

         Thank you to

“All In” encompasses the breadth of the sustainability and green building movement. Capturing all people, all sectors, all industries, all buildings, all cities and so much more, this theme welcomes everyone to grow as green building champions, and to do so at Greenbuild. When we come together at Greenbuild, we are one community of professionals, advocates and practitioners, students and teachers, designers and builders, and everything in between. We are all in. We invite people from every walk of life, from all over the globe, to learn with us and to help elevate green building principles and practices to the next level. “All In” also describes the depth of commitment we feel to our community and to our mission.
