Please join the USGBC-LA Westside and SFV Branches for a tour of one of UCLA’s newest green buildings, the Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference and Guest Center.
The tour will be guided by Cindy Gagle of the Luskin Center, Emma Sorrell, Sustainability Manager for UCLA Housing and Hospitality Services, and Todd Lynch, Principal Project Planner, UCLA Capital Programs.
Completed in 2016, the Luskin Conference Center is an important new central meeting place at UCLA. With more than 25,000 square feet of versatile, thoughtfully-executed event space and 254 graciously appointed guest rooms—many of which offer inspiring views of lush, landscaped grounds and historic architecture—the Luskin Center affords many new possibilities for scholars, innovators, leaders, and the diverse campus community to build relationships, exchange ideas, and make breakthroughs possible.
The Center’s central location supports the academic mission while reducing the collective carbon impact of UCLA’s many conferences and hosted events. As a high-capacity, energy-efficient central facility, served by both the nearby campus Cogeneration Plant and UCLA’s Transportation Demand Management program, the Center provides an outstanding meeting venue just a short walk from any campus department. For visitors, it offers a wonderful new base from which to explore many exciting cultural opportunities on campus as well as shopping and dining in nearby Westwood Village.
Beyond its location, the Luskin Conference Center has sought to integrate sustainability into all aspects of its facility and operations, including clean energy, sustainable water systems, recycling and waste management, sustainable food service and more. The Center is currently in the final stages of LEED Certification, seeking a Platinum ranking. For more details, see the recent feature in UCLA Magazine; for more information about UCLA’s sustainability and green building programs, please visit: http://sustain.ucla.edu.
Enhancing the gracious Luskin Conference Center guest experience is Plateia, a full-service Mediterranean-inspired, California-fresh restaurant and lounge. This will be the starting and end point of our tour, with happy hour and refreshments hosted by Morley Builders.
Come learn about the many sustainable features and programs at this new campus landmark and meet your Westside and SFV Branch colleagues in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
